Political Risk Is a Top Concern, But 86% of French Finance Leaders Cannot Quantify Its Financial Impact

A new Kyriba survey reveals widespread visibility gaps leaving CFOs exposed, while a companion benchmark finds a 19.6 day cash conversion cycle difference between matched companies.

PARIS, 15 October 2026: As companies across France navigate heightened scrutiny of public finances, budget volatility, and shifting fiscal policy, new Kyriba research reveals a critical operational challenge: 86% of French finance leaders say they cannot quickly quantify how political and fiscal shocks could affect their cash positions, foreign exchange exposure or borrowing capacity.

Kyriba's CFO Risk Radar 2026, which surveyed 250 French finance decision-makers, found this visibility gap is widespread. Political and fiscal instability is the top concern for 72% of respondents. Yet when volatility hits, most still lack the visibility to understand their true real-time exposure quickly enough to act.

The consequence is tangible: 81% of French respondents report that inadequate risk visibility caused financial damage to their organization over the past 12 months. Amid uncertainty around France’s fiscal path, political risk is no longer a distant macroeconomic trend. It is an active variable affecting daily cash management, liquidity planning and credit decisions.

"French CFOs aren't short on risk awareness," said Monica Boydston, Chief Product Officer at Kyriba. "They can see the economic storm coming. The breakdown occurs when they try to convert that into precise cash data fast enough to act. In volatile markets, awareness without real-time visibility is just watching the clock run out."

The urgency for real-time visibility is compounded by shrinking corporate safety nets. Kyriba’s European market analysis reveals that corporate cash reserves among tracked entities have contracted 6.1% over the past five years, a €14 billion drop, leaving treasurers with less room to absorb forecast errors or delayed information.

The analysis of company financial statements also points to the potential operating value of closing that visibility gap. The benchmarking of leading 60 publicly listed cross industry companies in Europe and the UK found a 19.6-day difference in cash conversion cycle between the Kyriba customer cohort and matched peers. For a company with €1 billion in revenue, a 19.6 day difference would represent approximately €54 million in additional working capital tied up in the operating cycle, depending on the company’s revenue profile and cash conversion assumptions.

The practical value of faster visibility is reflected in the decisions behind the numbers: when to collect, when to fund, when to hedge and where working capital is becoming trapped.

The difference was observed across five years of analysis (2021 to 2026) and was associated with operational discipline rather than simply extending supplier payment terms. The analysis identified faster collections and tighter inventory management as important contributors.
